Notes

Place of birth information is based upon 1880 Census Information for Cornelia Ayars, North Shade Township, Gratiot County, MI. Page 562.

That Gardner [Gordon?] Stanbrough is the father of Cornelia Stanbrough- Ayars comes from Cornelia's Death Certificate, Gratiot County Courthouse, MI. On that certificate, her father is called "Gordon". However, all census records have the name as "Gardner".

This man, with his first wife Freegift Nye, lived around Plainfield, Otsego, NY, in 1838. He later moved to Springville, NY.

Since Cornelia's 1880 Census Information states that she was born in NY State, Gardner Stanbrough, with wife Freegift Nye, had to be living in NY in 1823.

In GROWING UP WITH THE THIRD ANGEL'S MESSAGE, by Lucy Jennie Ayars- Kellogg and Ruth Conard, (Review and Herald, Vol. 112, Nos. 15-20, April 11-May 16, 1935), it is stated that "Mr. Stanbrough" had four daughters by two wives, two by his first marriage, and two by his second. All four daughters married Seventh Day Baptist men. Mr. Stanbrough's second wife, however, was not a Seventh Day Baptist, and, after moving to Springville, NY, he pressured his daughters and their husbands to abandon their Seventh Day Baptist faith.

*This "G" was between 30-40 years old, had two males living with him, aged between 5-10 and 15-20. He also had a woman there, aged between 30-40, and three females aged between 5-10, 10-15, and 15-20.

**This "Gardner" was born in Rhode Island, was aged 63 in 1850, and was married to "Elizabeth" who was born in MA. However, he had a "George" living with him, aged 19. According to L.J.Ayars-Kellogg, Cornelia Stanbrough's father had no sons. It is possible that this "George" was a son of "Elizabeth" by a previous marriage, since he was also born in MA.

Second Marriage confirmed by Protestant Sentinel, Vol. 3, No. 39, p. 155 (January 9, 1833). "MARRIED In Plainfield, Otsego co., on the 20th ult. by Eld. John Greene, Mr. Gardner Stanbrough, to Widow Betsey Cole."

These two "Gardners" are the only ones living in Plainfield, Otsego, NY between the years 1830-1840. Between 1840-1850, this Gardner had moved to Concord Township, Erie County, NY. This is near Springville, NY.
