INDEX

Notes

A list of Murchisons and the many branches descended from the first to arrive on Prince Edward Island on the "Polly", one of three vessels with Lord Selkirk's Colonists from the Western Islands of Scotland, chiefly Skye, on August 7, 1803. DR. ANGUS MACAULEY was Lord Selkirk's agent on board the "PollY". Two days afterwards the "Dykes" arrived with Lord Selkirk aboard, and on the 27th. the "Oughton" arrived with immigrants from the island "Uist". They all landed on the south side of Orwell Bay apparently on the sandy beach below what is now Lamont's or MacDonald's farm. Lord Selkirk left in September the same year. Dr. Angus MacAuley stayed and gave Donald Murchison and his second wife Ann MacGillvray, a parcel of land that might be about where Donald Neil Murchison now lives, and called it after his home land, "Auchtertyre". On the tombstone at Mt. Buchanan Cemetery in Point Prim, is inscribed: In memory of DONALD MURCHISON Died March 21st., 1831, Age 83 Also his beloved wife ANN Died April 24th, 1838, Age 87 Residents of Point Prim, emigrated to this Island from Isle of Skye, Scotland, in 1803 (Margaret Murchison Finlayson: THE MURCHISON FAMILY, p. 29.)
