Notes

An emigrant with two brothers, John and George Lawton, arriving about 1634. The valley in which they lived was known as Lawton's Valley (Arnold's Hist.RI) The family is said to have come from Chester, England and were there in the time of Henry V (1413-1422) and to have received their name from the manor of Lawton in the Co. of Chester, England which was held by the family since the reign of Henry VI (1422-1461) and by well founded tradition from a much earl- ier date.
