INDEX
Notes
Master Mariner, Miner, Merchant and Farmer, left his command in London
when gold was discovered in Ballarat, Australia, and shipped A B at one
shilling per month on a ship bound for Melbourne, Australia, left her
there, and with two others, trekked for the diggings. After three weeks,
found a large nugget, quarreled and separated. He bought a team of
horses and two revolvers and started packing stores to the mine, and
gold back to Goolong to the bank. Soon the "Bushmen" (racketeers we call
them) got too troublesome, sold horses and started a store buying and
shipping sheepskins principally. Met Catherine MacDonald of Kilmuir,
Skye, Scotland (recently arrived with her brother and many others)
married her and after a few years moved to P.E.I. (old home) and found he
was married to a relative.
