Mrs. Alice C. Bennett who for many years has lived in this vicinity, passed away at the home of her son in North Shade Township, November 3, 1935, being past 81 years of age. Her maiden name was Alice C. Ayars and she was born in Erie County, New York. When she was 13 years old her parents moved to Michigan and settled in Gratiot County, southeast of Carson City, where she lived until she united in marriage to Joseph E. Bennett in the year 1868, when they settled on the farm now owned by her son, Vern Bennett. To them were born 6 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her brother, John Ayars, of Kalamazoo, Michigan; her sister, Mrs. Jennie Kellogg of Washing, D.C.; her daughter Mrs. M. C. Guild of Niles, Michigan; and her two sons, Vern Bennett, on the old homestead, and Glen Bennett of Chicago; also 4 grandchildren, Glenn Bennett Jr. of El Paso, Texas; Eden Bennett, near Carson City; Mrs. Hugh S. Skeels of Battle Creek, Michigan; and Cecil Guild, who with his wife are missionaries in Yunnan, China. At an early age Mrs. Bennett joyfully gave her heart to God and with her husband was baptized and united with the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Carson City. She was an active, earnest, and faithful Christian, and for many years was considered one of the pillars of the Church; she was a firm believer in all the truths of the Bible, and her hope in the second coming of Christ was firm to the end. An immense congregation packed the Adventist Church Sunday afternoon at the funeral service which was conductied by Elder C. W. Pruitt of St. Johns, assisted by Elder S. E. Wright of Lansing.
