Colonel in the army, accompanied General Ludlow to Ireland, and ahving made several large purchases of land in the cos. of Galway, Tipperary, and King's Co., established himself at Eyre Court Castle, in the first name shire of which he was M.P. He m. Mary, dau. and co-heir of Philip Bygoe, Esq., high sheriff of the King's Co., in 1662, and d. in 1685, leaving two sons and two daus.

Colonel John Eyre, a younger son of Giles Eyre, esq. of Brickworth, in the county of Wilts, and brother of Edward Eyre, esq. the ancestor of the Eyres of Macroom Castle. He went over to that kingdom with General Ludlow, and having made several purchases of lands in the counties of Galway and Tipperary, and in the King's county, seated himself at Eyre Court castle, in the shire of Galway. After the restoration of King Charles II. he was returned to parliament by the town of Galway, and had a patend from the crown, dated in 1662, granting him the manor of Eyre Court, with power to empark eight hundred acres. Colonel Eyre, m. Mary, daughter of Philip Bygoe, esq. who was sheriff of the King's county in 1662, and left two sons.

III) which in turn is a scion of Eyre of St. John's Wood (see Burke's Landed Gentry, vol. I). Col. the Rt. Hon. John Eyre, accompanied Gen Ludlow to Ireland, and acquired large estates in cos Galway, Tipperary, and Clare, King's co, granted Manor of Eyrecourt with powers to empark 1662, adn built Eyrecourt Castle (one of Ireland's few wide-eaved, Dutch inspired houses of late 17th Cent), High Sheriff of co. Galway 1681, sometime MP for Galway. bapt 22 Feb 1623; 5th son of Giles Eyre, of Brickworth, nr Salisbury, Wilsts, Sheriff of Wilts 1640, and brother of Edward Eyre, MP, who also settled in co. Galway and was High Sheriff 1680 (see Burke's Landed Gentry III); m. Mary, dau and heiress of Phillip Bigoe, of Newtown, High Sheriff King's co. 1662, and d 22 April 1685 (will dated 13 March 1685, pr 8 June 1686), leaving issue.

John Eyre, a Colonel in Ludlow's Army, founder of Eyrecourt Castel, ancstor of the Eyres, of Eyrecourt and Eyreville. Col. the Right Hon. John Eyre accompanied General Ludlow to Ireland, and after the restoration of Charles II. was returned to Parliament for the town of Galway, and received a patent from the Crown, dated 1662, granting to him the Manor of Eyrecourt and other lands in Galway and Kerry. He m., in 1662, Mary Bigoe, dr. of Philip Bigoe, High Sheriff of Kings County, and died in 1684, leaving issue.
