While the eldest line continued in prosperity at their paternal seats, Robert the eldest son of John Eyre of Wedhampton by Jane his second wife settled at Salisbury as a merchant, and purchased lands and tenements in Castle Street of Sir Henry Long in the 33rd year of Henry VIII.'s reign. His career appears to have been fortunate, for he represented the city in Parliament in 1557, the last year of the reign of Philip and Mary; and served the office of Mayor in 1559. Of New Sarum, who purchased lands and tenements of Sir Henry Long in Castle Street, Sarum, in the 33rd year of Henry VIII.'s reign, M.P. for Sarum 1557, Mayor 1559, by his second wife (he married three widows) Jane, widow of George Tourney of New Sarum, and Molcombe, Dorset.

Robert Eyre, the eldest son, settled at Salisbury as a merchant. He purchased land and houses at Castle Street in that city from sir Henry Long, Knt., in the 33rd year of Henry VIII. He was M.P. for Salisbury or New Sarum in 1557, and Mayor in 1559. He married Jane, widow of George Tourney of New Sarum, and left one son, Thomas Eyre of New Sarum, who held lands in Wimborne, Dorset, 21st Elizabeth, was, like his father, Mayor of Salisbury in 1587, and married Elizabeth, dr. of John Rogers of Poole, of the family of Brianston, Dorset. He died 1628, and was buried at S. Thomas, Salisbury, Sep. 10, leaving issue.
